January Artist Showcase

The North Carolina Seniors at Universal Healthcare of Lillington will be displaying their art at the Harnett County Art Council Gallery starting the first Friday of the new year on January 6th 2012 with an artist reception from 6 - 8 pm. The art collection is comprised of various mediums and genre from watercolor, acrylics, pencil and pastels; landscapes, still lifes, abstract, and florals. Over a dozen talented residents at Universal Healthcare in Lillington have been attending the Art Adventure class which was organized by an employee Terri Dickson. She brought one of her paintings to work to show her co-workers and one of the residents stated, "I wish I could paint like that." "It's not that difficult," Dickson told her.  "I'll teach you how." Nine months later they have enough paintings to fill a gallery. Dickson has donated her time and all the art materials and supplies at no cost to the residents or the facility. They held an art show in the long term care facility at 1995 East Cornelius Harnett Boulevard, Lillington. where the residents were honored and family members attended the show. Dickson donated one of her paintings to raise money for more art supplies. Recently another artist, Roy Wayne Gilmore has volunteered his time to teach also. The show NORTH CAROLINA SENIOR ARTS AND SUPPORTING ARTISTS   will feature some of the art by Dickson and Gilmore and their students.  "I would love to see more artists and businesses get involved in bringing art to our senior citizens and physically challenged adults." Dickson stated. Members of the HCAC and the public are encouraged to come support the senior artists in this January.
